"Joy and the Great Surmise, 2012"
Rev. Jim McKinley
“Neither duty nor suffering nor progress nor conflict — not even survival — is the aim of life, but joy, deep abiding, uncompromised joy.” — Rev. Carl Scovel, The Berry Street Essay, 1994. I know Rev. Scovel and this assertion has become part of my personal scripture — a theological koan or challenge for my less than theistic orientation. Mid-February and the Sunday before Valentines Day seems a good time to surmise and bring deep joy into awareness.
